About Me - Ivo Lobjakas

I was 8–9 years old when, as part of the mandatory school swimming lessons, I attended swimming classes with my classmates at the Koidula Gymnasium pool in Pärnu. By nature, I am very conscientious and do everything I’m told to the best of my ability. When it came time to take the swimming test at the end of the swimming course, I remember putting all my skills into action — freestyle with a low position, pulling with my arm, turning my face out of the water, breathing, raising my arm. I did all of this, but my mouth and eyes were full of water, it felt unpleasant, I couldn’t breathe properly, I coughed, and I doubted whether I could swim to the end — but I did! Afterward, everyone was invited to join the swimming club, and I joined!

I am a swimming coach and P.E. teacher, raised in Pärnu and now working in Tartu. I started coaching in the fall of 2010 when I moved from Pärnu to study at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Exercise and Sports Sciences. Over the years, I have specialized in beginner instruction, overcoming fears, and developing swimming techniques for children, youth, and adults. In addition to regular beginner lessons, years of coaching swimmers, teaching four swimming styles, and preparing students for their first competitions, I have also taught swimming to babies and toddlers, worked with English-speaking children's groups and adults, instructed groups of children with special needs for years, and conducted individual lessons.

Swimming is a life-saving skill essential for ensuring safety. It is also an excellent way to stay fit, offering a full-body workout. Beyond its practical and health benefits, swimming is fun, providing a refreshing opportunity to relax, explore underwater worlds, and enjoy moving through water. Swimming skills open doors to water sports, travel, and social activities, making it an invaluable ability. Being comfortable with water and knowing how to swim bring joy and peace of mind, whether at home, at a friend’s place, on holiday at an Estonian spa, or on an exotic vacation.

As a teacher, my job is to create a safe and positive learning environment, starting with building a connection, a positive attitude, and good communication. My approach is simple, natural, supportive, and playful. If you have any questions or requests, feel free to contact me by phone or via the contact form, even if you’re hesitant — I’ll gladly help you take the first steps toward discovering the joy of water.
