Lesson Information

Where do the lessons take place?

  • Lessons are held at Aura Water Centre - Turu 10, 51004 Tartu. www.aurakeskus.ee
  • Lessons can also be conducted at other swimming pools in Tartu and Estonia. During summer, lessons may be held in open water. When conducting lessons outside Aura Water Centre, the pricing may vary depending on the access fees. Special cases will be discussed individually.

When do the lessons take place?

  • Lessons are scheduled at a time that suits both you and me. Lessons are available Monday to Friday mornings from 6:45, during the day, and evenings. On Saturdays, lessons are from 10:00 to 14:00, but please note that the pool may be booked for competitions. Weekend lessons have an additional fee of +10 euros.
  • Call or write to schedule a time.

How long does one swimming lesson last?

  • One training session typically lasts about 50 minutes (time spent in the water). Depending on the intensity, age, skills, and other factors, the lesson duration can range from 45 to 55 minutes.
  • For children aged 3-5 years, the lesson is shorter, averaging 30-35 minutes due to their attention span and body size - they get cold more quickly.

What do I need for the lesson?

  • Suitable swimwear (trunks - classic or longer, but close-fitting and without pockets; swimsuit or two-piece swimwear, not beachwear). If you are buying swimwear, I recommend chlorine-resistant and UV-protected swimwear.
  • Towel.
  • Cleaning products (shampoo/body wash) to clean off chlorine after the lesson.
  • Optional - moisturizing face/body cream - chlorine dries out the skin.
  • Swim goggles. Chlorine irritates the eyes, and goggles protect your eyes from chlorine. Goggles also help you see clearly underwater, providing greater confidence.
    • When choosing goggles, consider three factors: eye socket shape, face width, and nose height/width. Buy goggles only if you have tried them on. To test, put the goggles on and gently press them against your eyes, but do not secure the strap behind your head (let the strap hang under your chin) and release the goggles. If a vacuum forms, the goggles will stay in place and not let water in while swimming. If the goggles immediately fall off or only one side stays in place, they will leak water.

How do the lessons take place?

General information:

  • For all participants, I keep a log for methodology, progress tracking, and development monitoring. Records, feedback, and data on skills are kept for up to 6 months after the last lesson.
  • The lesson starts at the agreed time by the poolside. Allow time for finding parking, entry, changing, and washing (at least 15 minutes).
  • Before coming to the pool, you must rinse off in the shower room.
  • The meeting point for the lesson is at the stand on the right wall as you exit the shower room, unless otherwise agreed.
  • In the first lesson, I will assess the swimmer's current status - conduct an observation and evaluation to understand the learner's motivation, skills, fears, experiences, and knowledge. We will also discuss goals and I will create a plan accordingly.
  • The lesson begins with a warm-up (light exercises in the water for up to 10 minutes).
  • The main part of the lesson consists of theory, technique learning, and workout/training.
  • The lesson ends with lighter swimming/play (5-10 minutes).
  • After the lesson, I recommend washing off and applying cream to the skin, especially on the face.

For children:

  • For child swimmers, I can assist with changing/escorting in the changing room if the parent/guardian wishes. This will be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
  • Whether the parent will be present at the first swimming lesson or not will be decided before the first lesson.
  • In subsequent lessons, the parent/guardian can be present, but it is not required. If desired, I am happy to share information with the parent/guardian on what to focus on when taking the child for family fun time in the water.
  • If the presence of the parent/guardian disrupts the child's concentration, I may ask them to leave the lesson.
